Organization of CANDU Industries Applauds Progress on New Build Decision
The Organization of CANDU Industries (OCI) applauds the government of Ontario’s progress on its decision to build new nuclear power stations in Ontario, especially at this time of hardship in the province’s manufacturing sector.
The government’s announcement to build two new nuclear reactors, the first in 15 years, will mean thousands of new construction jobs and also comes at a time when Ontario’s manufacturing sector has been hard hit with losses.
“The Organization of CANDU Industries would like to congratulate Minister Phillips for moving forward on the site decision and we are all looking forward to the day when we can put a shovel in the ground on the next new build,” said OCI President Martyn Wash. “Canadian member companies, located across Ontario will benefit from job creation from the supply of goods and services during the construction of a new generating station as well as the 60 years of operation during the station’s lifetime.”
