Presentation of Jack Howett Award
The OCI is proud to announce the formation of the Jack Howett Award, an academic bursary to be awarded annually to deserving students in the fields of nuclear engineering or the nuclear sciences.
Honoring one of the OCI’s founding members, this award consists of an annual $500 bursary awarded each year to a deserving student in each of two post-secondary institutions:
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology and McMaster University
The first award was made to the UOIT in 2004, has been extended in 2005 to include McMaster University.
In addition, this year the OCI set up an endowment for the UOIT with matching funds from the Government of Ontario under the OTSS program (Ontario Trust for Student Support). This endowment will provide an annual award of approximately $1,000 starting in 2009, which will replace the annual $500 bursary and will exist in perpetuity.
The OCI is happy and proud to support nuclear education in Canada, and also very happy to honor one of our founding members, Jack Howett, whose contributions over the years have done so much to promote and support the nuclear industry in Canada.
